Description

Examining bird density, population and diversity in relation to land use change and socioeconomic indicators in Arabuko Sokoke Forest- Kenya. Point count methodology was used to collect avian data between the year 2009 and 2010. This data was used to test the level of impact of fencing might have on the lives of wildlife. Birds have been used widely as litmus paper of environmental stress. This is because birds are very sensitive to the habitat they live in due to the fact that some species are very forest specialist. The point count data was collect by senior research scientist Peter Njoroge from National Museums of Kenya, Ornithology section of zoology department. National Museums of Kenya, ornithology section is recognized institution nationally and internationally to underatake avian research and share their finding with the general public. The data was used to used to test the ecological impact of electric fence in Arabuko Sokoke Forest in Kenya, a biodiversity hotspot.
