EDP Foz-Tua: Vascular Flora – Ecological and Complentary Measures Monitoring Programs – Contruction Phase I [2012-2014]. Version 1.1. EDP. Sampling event dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/26agth accessed via GBIF.org on 2025-06-14.

Description

The dataset contains records of Vascular Flora and Habitats collected the scope of the Ecological and Complementary Measures Monitoring Programs (2012-2017) of the Environmental Impact Assessment of the Foz Tua Hydroelectric Dam, promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A. Data were collected in the spring 2012-2014, during field visits to a variable number of sampling points, depending of the year (range: 124-137), distributed along the river Tua valley, from the mouth to 52km upstream. This dataset includes most of construction phase (2012-2015). A total of 29424 records of species and infra-species categories was obtained.

Purpose

This dataset is part of a broader initiative whereby the company EDP - Energias de Portugal S.A. will make available biodiversity data collected during impact assessment and biological monitoring studies.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The data were collected along the Tua lower valley (Northeast Portugal), up to 52 km from the mouth, in the municipalities of Alijó, Carrazeda de Ansiães, Murça, Vila Flor and Mirandela.

Sampling

Sampling was based on plant inventories in permanent 50 m2 sampling plots, with production of a floristic list and quantitative assessment of the degree of coverage (in percentage) and density (number of individuals per meter square, in a semi-quantitative scale) of vascular plants. However, only the percentage cover was used in this dataset. The number of sampling plots varied along the study period: 124 in 2012; 129 in 2013; and 137 in 2014.
