The dataset contains a list of plant species collected by M.I. Berezhnyj in 1967-1989 in Ukraine (mostly in Sumy region). In addition, some plants were transferred to M.I. Berezhnyj from other researchers - in such versions their authorship is indicated. M.I. Berezhny is a Ukrainian botanist and forester, candidate of agricultural sciences. He was born in 1924 in the Kirovohrad region, in 1943 he was drafted into the army. After injury and long treatment he was sent to a cavalry school. Later, in 1946–1952, he worked as a school teacher. In 1951-1952 he graduated from the 10th grade and entered the Agricultural Academy, then was sent to Kazakhstan for three years as a senior forester. In 1960 he arrived in Krasno-Trostyanets forest research station (Sumy region) and worked there for subsequent 40 years. He has published more than 40 scientific papers on a wide range of topics: organization of farms for fast-growing tree species; study of fruiting alder, oak, pine; introduction and research of larch, Chinese magnolia, Manchurian aralia, etc.; research of resources of medicinal plants of Trostyanets region. After retirement he continued to grow medicinal and introduced plants and trees, created and organized his herbariums.Sampling Description
Study Extent
Herbarium of M.I. Berezhnyj was photographed in 2006-2019 by Viktor Parkhomenko, that is why the processing of the herbarium in case of this study means processing of photos of specimens preserved in the mentions collection. Later the photo-archive was submitted for processing and a database was made on the initiative of O. Vasyliuk (processing and organizing o the available records was made by Natalia Netis, Timur Pliushch, Viktor Podkopay). Coordinates were identified by Olexiy Vasyliuk.Sampling
To create the data set, only reliable herbarium sheets were used. It means that they contained sufficiently accurate information about the find so that the locations could be identified geographically. Mostly these were known specific locations or clearly defined forest districts (accuracy of indication - from 20 to 5000 meters). We identified the registration places and determined their geographical coordinates.Quality Control
The authors are fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.Method steps
- Taking photos of the herbarium.
- Organizing of electronic version of the herbrium with subsequents processing of photos.
- Georeferencing.
- Creation of dataset according to Darwin Core standards.
