Description

Funbel is the chorological database “Fungi of Belgium” of the Royal Flemish Mycological Society (KVMV). The database was launched in 1991, but contains observations dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. The aim of Funbel is to build a standardised database of the distribution and ecological data of fungi and slime moulds in Belgium, with a focus on the Flemish Region and the Brussels-Capital Region. The database provides a basis for knowledge about the diversity (checklists), distribution (compilation of atlases) and status (compilation of Red Lists) of fungi in Belgium. It can also be used for scientific support for management plans for nature and forest areas. New entries in the database, usually by KVMV members, are checked by the Funbel administrator, including checks of new species names, new areas and incomplete observations. The naming of species for the Basidiomycota and Myxomycota is in accordance with the Standard List of Basidiomycota and Myxomycota of Flanders and the Brussels Region [R. Walleyn & E. Vandeven (eds.), 2006].
