Vasheniak I (2024). Ukrainian calcareous vegetation of western and south-western Ukraine. Version 1.5. Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (NGO). Occurrence dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/wcpwux accessed via GBIF.org on 2024-12-15.Description
The dataset includes records of 317 species of vascular plants and cryptogam species of the Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmel'nytskyi, Odessa and Vinnytsia administrative regions of Ukraine. These species (mainly vascular plants, succulents, graminoids, mosses and lichens) occur on calcareous bedrocks of Western, Central, and South Ukraine.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
The dataset shows the flora content that was identified during creation of geobotanical descriptions in expeditions organized in 2021. We cooperated with Iryna Dmytrash-Vatseba (Ivano-Frankivsk region), Yakiv Didukh, Illia Chornei (Chernivtsi region), Olena Yavorska (Vinnytsia region). A total number of 317 species was identified. This dataset was prepared (correctly organized according to Darwin Core standards) and published with the help of the project "Preservation of data on biodiversity of Ukraine during the Russian occupation" funded by "Documenting Ukraine" initiative. The initiative is financed by the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (https://www.iwm.at/).Sampling
We have sampled 54 phytosociological relevés with a uniform plot size of 10 m² using Braun-Blanquet approach (Braun-Blanquet 1964) with the modification of EDGG methodology which we personally collected from Ukraine (Chernivtsi, Zakarpattia, Khmel'nyts'kyi, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivs'k and Ternopil administrative regions of Ukraine) in 2021 with specific vascular plants, bryophytes and epigeic lichens. Geographical locations were indicated by GPS-navigator in decimal degrees according to the WGS84 system. The nomenclature for the vascular plant species is according to the Euro+Med Database checklist (http://www.emplantbase.org), while bryophytes are according to Boiko (2008), and lichens are according to Kondratiuk (1998).Quality Control
The author is fully responsible for the quality of data provided within the dataset.Method steps
- Conducting of field expeditions.
- Personal collecting of vascular plants, bryophytes and epigeic lichens.
- Identification of genuses, species and subspecies according to the existing identification keys.
- Georeferencing with the use of GPS-navigator.
- Systematizing of collected data in TurboVeg software.
- Adaptation of TurboVeg database to Darwin Core standards and organizing of the uploaded dataset.
Taxonomic Coverages
Dataset consists of mainly vascular plants (Polypodiopsida, Pinopsida, Magnoliopsida and Liliopsida classes), bryophytes (Abietinella abietina (Hedw.) Fleisch., Ceratodon purpureus (Hedw.) Brid., (Hedw.) Kindb., Syntrichia ruralis (Hedw.) F. Weber & Mohr, etc) and lichens (Cladonia rei Schaer., Collema tenax (Sw.) Ach., Toninia sedifolia (Scop.) Timdal, etc).
