Dialogos sobre sostenibilidad y biodiversidad. Guardianes de la biodiversidad, museos de historia natural e iniciativas de digitalizacion
Add to calendarICOM is a global organization that aims to demonstrate the diverse ways that the museum sector contributes to sustainable development and to inspire museums and museum professionals worldwide to initiate or strengthen efforts toward sustainable development. Following the 25th General Conference in Kyoto in 2019, ICOM committed to strengthening efforts toward sustainable development by envisioning a world where the importance of natural and cultural heritage is universally valued.
Sustainability is a cross-cutting issue relevant to all museums and integrating biodiversity conservation into museum programs as part of a holistic approach can support efforts toward planetary balance. As environmental knowledge and social behavior are closely interconnected, these issues should be addressed together and communicated to diverse audiences, with museums uniquely positioned to do so as trusted and credible sources of information.
Museums therefore are not only institutions that preserve and transmit knowledge, but also are
spaces for reflection capable of generating awareness about the interdependence existing between humans and their environment.
