Description
The Aranzadi Ringing Scheme belongs to the Aranzadi Sciences Society, a non-profit organization situated in the city of Donostia-S. Sebastián (Gipuzkoa, Spain). The aims of Aranzadi are the research (in the fields of the natural and human sciences) and the divulgation of this research, with the last goal of conserving our patrimony. The Society was funded in 1947 and took its name from the researcher Telesforo de Aranzadi (1860-1945), who was a famous anthropologist with also studies carried out in the fields of the natural sciences. The Aranzadi Ringing Scheme is one of the two ringing offices currently operating in Spain, and it is recognized by EURING (www.euring.org) and the Spanish Ministry of Environment. Working on bird ringing from 1949, our Scheme was the first institution which ringed birds in Spain. To date, our rings are used in all Spain and we manage ca. 40% of the birds which are annually ringed in Spain.Contacts
