Description
This is the Fisheries and Oceans Canada Maritimes Region database for groundfish research trawl surveys. Descriptive data are given for each cruise, or mission (survey series, cruise number, stratum, and set), and for each set are given date, location, gear, depth, distance towed, temperature, salinity, species captured, number and weight of each species, and length measurements for each species. Geographic coverage includes the southern Scotian Shelf and Bay of Fundy (NAFO Subareas 4V, 4W, and 4X). Temporally, the database contains groundfish research cruises since 1970 . Purpose: Primary purpose is for fish stock assessments and associated research. Secondary purpose include biodiversity and climate change research. About 200 fishing sets per year. For each set:mission number, set number, date, survey stratum, latitude(dd.dd), longitude(dd.dd), gear depth(m), gear type(code), distance towed(km), experiment type, surface termperature(c), surface salitiny(ppt), bottom temperature(c), bottom salinity(ppt); for all species captured: genus, species, common name , total weight(kg) and count, and total weight(kg) and count standardized by distance towed; for some species: sex, specimen length(cm) and count at length adjusted for subsampling, and count at length adjusted for subsampling and distance towed; for some individual specimens: length(cm), weight(gr), age(yr), sex(code), and maturity state (code).
