GBIF-Norway’s mandate is to co-ordinate national activities with GBIF work programs, and participate in the Norwegian delegation in the GBIF Governing Board. It is the Norwegian link to GBIF internationally, and thus the main channel for the international audience to information on Norwegian biodiversity.

GBIF-Norway is hosted as an integrated unit at the Natural History Museum at the University of Oslo (NHM-UiO). It is a research project at the museum operated the museum’ staff in close collaboration with the Norwegian Biodiversity Information Centre (Artsdatabanken).

The Norwegian GBIF node has maintained the same mandate and hosting arrangement since the start in 2005.
