description
Regional distribution. Two Mongolian localitieS of thiS wideSpread Holarctic SpecieS are known to the date. 1. Chono-Khoraikh gol RiVer in the Large LakeS DepreSSion (15.07.2012, leg. M. V. VinarSki; See coordinateS in the Appendix). 2. PoolS in the Orkhon RiVer floodplain near Shamor Settlement in Northern Mongolia (31.07.1982, leg. K. G. MikhailoV; ZMMU). PopoVa (1981) found L. stagnalis in the PleiStocene depoSitS of Mongolia. Extra-limital distribution. L. stagnalis haS been recorded from other countrieS of Central ASia: AfghaniStan (Hubendick 1951), China (Liu Yueyin 1979), and Nepal (Glöer & Bößneck 2013; aS Lymnaea kashmirensis PraShad, 1925). The oVerall SpecieS' range iS Holarctic. Variation. Two morphotypeS of thiS SpecieS haVe been recorded from Mongolia — the typical one, with relatiVely Short Spire and prominently inflated body whorl (See fig. 4 A), and the Second that iS characterized by much more Slender Shell and oblong Spire (See fig. 4 B). Some authorS (KrugloV & StarobogatoV 1985 a, 1993 a) regarded the latter morphotype aS a Separate SpecieS, Lymnaea fragilis (L., 1758), howeVer it haS been Shown that there are no SubStantial genetic differenceS between low-Spired and high-Spired SnailS, and L. fragilis iS nothing but an intraSpecific morphotype (Mezhzherin et al. 2008; VinarSki et al. 2012; VinarSki 2014, 2015 a).
