Description
The Academia Sinica Biodiversity Research Museum, originally affiliated with the Institute of Zoology and the Institute of Botany, underwent a transition in 2004 when the Biodiversity Research Center was officially established. At that time, both institutes transferred all their specimen collections, equipment, space, and personnel to the newly formed institution, which was renamed the "Biodiversity Research Museum of Academia Sinica." Since 1995, with the assistance of the Academia Sinica Computing Center, the research and collection results of the museum have been published on the World Wide Web, making it Taiwan's first database openly accessible on the internet, with approximately 40,000 specimens. The museum has continued to develop various websites, including the Taiwan Native Plant Database, Discovering Taiwan's Plants, Botanical Gardens, Taiwan Fish Database, Taiwan Mollusk Database, and Taiwan Biodiversity Information Network, to provide services for both domestic and international experts, scholars, and the general public. Since its establishment, these websites have collectively received over two hundred thousand monthly visitors.Contacts
