Irkutsk State University, the oldest University in Eastern Siberia (Russian Federation), was founded in 1918. Faculty of Biology and Soil Studies, one of the oldest in the University, is represented by 8 departments. There are several biological collections of different groups of organisms (incl. plants, fungi, invertebrates, vertebrates, as well as microorganisms) that are stored in department collections.
