Signature research areas include sustainable oceans, clean technology and the environment, food security, and medicine. The university is home to several natural history collections, including the herbarium and Thomas McCulloch Museum in the Department of Biology, and the A.E. Roland Herbarium and A.D. Pickett Etymology Museum in the Department of Plant, Food, and Environmental Sciences.
