Kostroma Division of Russian Geographical Society

Description

The Russian Geographical Society promotes exploration and geography with research programs in fields including oceanography and ethnography. The society was founded on 6 (18) August 1845 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Prior to the Russian Revolution of 1917, it was known as the Imperial Russian Geographical Society. Kostroma division of society was founded in 2010. The division shares historical and geographical knowledge, supports scientific research of Kostroma region. The important activity of division is support of biodiversity studies of Kostroma region. Several field expeditions for study of regional protected areas were organized with support of the division. As a results, new flora and fauna species (for region) were detected, and also rare communities were described.
