The Graduate Researchers Award (previously the Young Researchers Award) is an annual programme that highlights innovative research and discovery in biodiversity informatics by graduate students in GBIF Participant countries. These countries nominate students, with two winners—generally one master’s and one doctoral candidate—receiving a cash prize and recognition every year.

Calls for nominations go out early each year, and interested students must submit applications to a national node manager or head of delegation. Each national delegations may nominate a maximum of two students each year to the GBIF Secretariat.

Graduate students who wish to be considered for the nominations should consult the websites of their national GBIF Participants or contact the node manager or head of delegation directly. An expert jury overseen by the GBIF Science Committee selects the winners, and the winners' countries and the Secretariat announce the results each autumn just before GBIF's annual Governing Board meeting.
