- Over 340,000 specimens - Approximately 630 type specimens belonging to 363 invertebrates and 267 vertebrates. The collection of insects and arachnids is one of the largest in the country, both by the number of specimens and by the broad geographic representation and its scientific and historical value. In the Collection of Ornithology are represented approximately 1.300 species and 2000 subspecies of birds in Colombia (by far the largest collection of Colombian birds in the world). Amphibians Collection is also the largest in the world as a group, including 122 holotypes and 153 paratypes. The collection also includes 10 holotypes Reptiles and 76 paratypes. Ichthyology Collection includes 1,300 species of fish in the country, including 610 species of freshwater fishes of the 800 registered at the national level. This library currently contains 50 type specimens. The collection of freshwater crabs consists of 30 type specimens, and is the largest of its kind in the country.
