EDP Foz-Tua: Large and Medium-sized Mammals (point counts): Complementary Studies [2009-10]

Study Extent

The data were collected within a 5-km buffer around the lower Tua River valley (Northeast Portugal) up to 50 km from the mouth, in the municipalities of Carrazeda de Ansiães, Alijó, Vila Flor, Murça and Mirandela.

Sampling

Sampling was designed to cover the main habitat types for the target mammal species in and around the lower Tua River valley affected by the Foz-Tua dam (including the reservoir area). Each sampling plot was visited once in the winter (November-March) of 2009-10. All habitats were searched for identifiable signs of presence (feaces, latrines, scats, footprints) of the target species. Species identifications were made “in situ”, with the help of appropriate field guides.

Quality Control

All identifications were performed by qualified technicians.
