A regional workshop on Data Use for Decision Making organized by GBIF Chile is to be held in April 2020 as a part of the project CESP2019-005. This workshop will help reduce the gap between GBIF nodes and public policy managers in Chile and the Ibero-American region.
The objective of this workshop, in collaboration with the University of Kansas, Universidad de Concepción, the VertNet Project and the GBIF partners participating in this project - GBIF Spain, GBIF Argentina, SiB Colombia, GBIF Ecuador, GBIF Peru and GBIF Chile - it consists in contributing to the improvement of the capacity of professionals working in biodiversity conservation in both public services and research project teams by showing how primary biodiversity data can be incorporated into national decision-making processes. Participants will discover the importance of biodiversity data in the decision-making process, learn to prepare the information to be used and perform essential analyzes in order to determine the distribution of species and assess their conservation status. At the end of the course, participants will learn to transmit their results to the main groups involved in the decision-making process. The event will feature virtual and face-to-face components, with a strong practical approach.
