Surveys of fish in Lewis Creek done as part of Spencer Hardy's Middlebury College undergraduate Biology thesis. All sampling done by wading with backpack electroshocker. Difficult identifications confirmed by Rich Langdon via photos. No specimens collected. Full report: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/338882041Sampling Description
Study Extent
Lewis Creek Watershed, sampled periodically in spring and fall 2016Sampling
Backpack electroshocking with dip nets and waders.Quality Control
Difficult IDs checked by state fisheries biologist, Rich LangdonMethod steps
- Sampling was done in an upstream direction, attempting to cover the width of the channel and a representative selection of micro habitats. Sampling effort was recorded by the timer on the electorshocker (seconds of use). Individual fish caught, identified, recorded, and then released downstream. Unfamiliar species were kept in a bucket and identified at the end of the survey, photographed if necessary then released.
