The University of Michigan Museum of Paleontology (UMMP) invertebrate collection includes over 85,000 cataloged specimen lots and houses upwards of 3 million. These include Paleozoic invertebrates (particularly those from the Michigan Basin region), Mesozoic mollusks from the Western Interior Seaway, and Neogene mollusks from the southeastern United States. Additionally, 75% of the collection by volume is in the stratigraphic collection with approximately 50% being regional Middle Devonian material.

Taxonomic Coverages
The invertebrate paleontology collection primarily includes fossil invertebrates spanning the Phanerozoic. Historically, some groups, including problematic taxa, protists, algae, and others are retained in this collection.
