Description

The dataset of butterflies of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is constructed based on the results of the Vietnam national research project, titled " Research on biodiversity of Son Doong cave system in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh province for conservation and sustainable development”, coded DTĐL.CN-113/21, supported by the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology, conducted by the Vietnam National Museum of Nature, Hanoi, Vietnam.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The main study of the project was in 2022 and 2023, but the study was also used data in 1999. The species list of butterflies of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park has been published in two papers in Vietnam. Vu Van Lien. 2016. Butterfly species list of Minh Hoa, Quang Binh. VNU Journal of Science: Natural Sciences and Technology, Vol. 32, No. 2 (2016) 47-57 Vu Van Lien, Vu Quang Con, Pham Nhat Tan. 2023. Composition and diversity of butterfly species (Lepidoptera: Rhopalocera) in Son Doong cave and its vicinity, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. Proceedings of the 11th Vietnam National Conference on Entomology. Agricultural Publishing House. Hanoi, pp. 108-121.

Sampling

Butterfly specimens were collected in different habitats by hand nets. In additional, butterflies were observed and recorded.

Method steps

  1. The species list of butterflies was based on collected specimens and researcher observation in the field. Identification and nomenclature of butterflies were referred and taken by/from Monastryskii & Devyatkin (2015; Vu (2016), Vu et al. (2023).

Taxonomic Coverages
