The dataset of butterflies of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is constructed based on the results of the Vietnam national research project, titled " Research on biodiversity of Son Doong cave system in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh province for conservation and sustainable development”, coded DTĐL.CN-113/21, supported by the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology, conducted by the Vietnam National Museum of Nature, Hanoi, Vietnam.Sampling Description
Study Extent
The main study of the project was in 2022 and 2023, but the study was also used data in 1999. Butterfly specimens were collected in different habitats by hand nets. In additional, butterflies were observed and recorded.Method steps
- The species list of butterflies was based on collected specimens and researcher observation in the field. Identification and nomenclature of butterflies were referred and taken by/from Monastryskii & Devyatkin (2015; Vu (2016), Vu et al. (2023).

Geographic Coverages
The Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park is located in Quang Binh province, central Vietnam. The park covers 123,326 ha, including 03 sub-zones: strictly protected sub-zone (100,296 ha); ecological restoration sub-zone (19,619 ha); administrative service sub-zone (3,411 ha). The largest cave named “Son Doong” is inside the park. The Fauna and Flora of the Park are very rich. There are more than 250 species of butterflies. The survey of butterflies was carried out in 1999 and recently in 2022 and 2023.
