The Central Siberian Botanical Garden of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CSBG SB RAS) is the largest botanical institution in the Asian part of Russia. Founded in 1946, the CSBG SB RAS is historically a consortium of two herbarium collections with their own acronyms (NS and NSK) and registration in the Index Herbariorum. Collections couny about 700 000 herbarium specimens of vascular plants sampled in Siberia, Russian Far East, Europe, Asia and America.
All specimens from the genus Myricaria Desv. (Tamaricaceae Link) stored in NS and NSK herbarium collections were digitized and placed in CSBG SB RAS Digital herbarium (http://herb.csbg.nsc.ru:8081).
The dataset consists of 368 records of digitized Myricaria herbarium specimens. For each specimen, the species name, locality, collection date, collector, ecology and revision label are recorded.
Purpose
Our aim is to provide online access to CSBG SB RAS herbarium collections as a worldwide resource for biodiversity studies.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
All herbarium specimens of genus Myricaria Desv. (Tamaricaceae) kept at CSBG SB RAS collections (NS, NSK) were studied by Dr. E.M. Lyakh and digitized by staff of the Digitization herbarium group in the Vascular Plant Systematics Laboratory of CSBG SB RAS.Sampling
Dried and pressed herbarium specimens were digitized using two special scanners, ObjectScan 1600, according to the international standards: at 600 dpi, with a barcode, 24-color scale and spatial scale bar (Kovtonyuk, 2017; Kovtonyuk, Han, Gatilova, 2018). Images (*.jpg files) and metadata are stored in the CSBG SB RAS Digital Herbarium (http://herb.csbg.nsc.ru:8081) generated by ScanWizard Botany and MiVapp Botany software (Microtek, Taiwan).Quality Control
We used international standarts for herbarium digitization.Method steps
- The digitization process includes the following 6 steps (Kovtonyuk, Han, Gatilova, 2018): 1. Mounting of dry plant material onto a herbarium sheet; 2. Checking the identification and nomenclature by a specialist; 3. Barcoding the specimen: printing a barcode on the lazer printer and affixing it to the herbarium sheet; 4. Placing the herbarium sheet, 24-color scale and scale bar on the scanner platform and image capturing; 5. Generating metadata, labeling OCR by ScanWizard Botany and verification of the label text by experts; 6. Archive management by MiVapp-Botany.
