The ASNHC Amphibian and Reptile Collection totals approximately 15,500 specimens. Areas of strong geographic representation include west-central to north-central Texas including a large series from the Concho Valley. Significant series from surveys of Devil's River State Natural Area and Monahans Sandhills State Park are also present. Significant collections from northern Mexico are also present. The collection was established in the late 1960s.
Purpose
The Collection of Amphibians and Reptiles is held for research, outreach, and university-level specimen-based education.
