Description

La mayoría de los trabajos publicados sobre la mastofauna del estado de Michoacán, ha sido sobre el área costera y excepcionalmente sobre la región, y hasta el desarrollo de este proyecto, se carecía de un documento que integrará el acervo mastofaunístico del estado. Considerando la abundancia de recursos naturales, los suelos fértiles, lo benigno del clima y los diversos asentamientos humanos a lo largo de la historia en la entidad Michoacana, la modificación de los ecosistemas originales es evidente, la cual se ha venido acelerando durante los últimos tiempos. De esto deriva la importancia de conocer los ecosistemas de la región y por ende de la mastofauna como parte integrante de ellos. Con el apoyo de la CONABIO se obtuvo una base de datos que contiene información sobre un total de 6,663 ejemplares correspondientes a 148 especies, producto de la exhaustiva revisión de las colecciones de mamíferos existentes para el estado de Michoacán, del trabajo de investigación bibliográfica y de la sistematización de la información recabada.
