Description

This dataset presents occurrence records and composition of fish species collected from the Victoria and Kyoga lake basins between 2001 and 2003.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The study considered selected lakes between 2001 and 2003

Sampling

Sampling was conducted parallel to the shoreline off each dominant vegetation type. For each habitat type, sampling was done within 20 m from the shore and beyond, between 20m and about 70 m away from the shoreline. Fish was captured using gillnets and basket traps set overnight. Complete details of sampling are available in Balirwa (1998).

Quality Control

All scientific names were validated using FishBase (Froese & Pauly, 2018).

Method steps

  1. All scientific names were validated using FishBase (Froese & Pauly, 2018).

Taxonomic Coverages

The dataset covers fish species in Uganda
  1. Actinopterygii
common name: Ray finned fishes rank: class
  2. Sarcopterygii
common name: Lobe finned fishes rank: class

Geographic Coverages

The data set covers lakes within the lake systems of Lake Victoria and Kyoga, Uganda
