A checklist of wild vascular plants in Xinjiang, China

Based on previous studies, we updated the list of wild vascular plants in Xinjiang through literature collection, specimen study, field investigation and the latest taxonomic research results.

Method steps

1. (1) Name check. Use TNRS (Taxonomic Name Resolution) tool to comprehensively check the spelling of plant scientific names. Spelling that TNRS cannot solve, by searching Tropicos（ https://www.tropicos.org/ ）The Plant List (TPL, http://www.theplantlist.org/ ）Plants of the World Online (POWO), https://powo.science.kew.org) and Flora of China (Wu et al, 1994-2013). (2) Name revision. Refer to the Chinese Catalogue of Life (2022)（ http://www.sp2000.org.cn/ ) of standardizing species names, Chinese names, family names, and genus names, and organizing, simplifying, and arranging species lists. The names that are not included in the 2022 edition of the Chinese Catalogue of Life (2022) are mainly determined by referring to Flora of China (Wu et al., 1994-2013) and recent published papers. In order to more objectively reflect the characteristics of vascular plant diversity in Xinjiang, this checklist only includes wild and wild vascular plants. The names of cultivated plants collected from the raw data were excluded based on the notes and survey data in the "Flora of Xinjiang". (3) Determination of county-level distribution and voucher specimens. Mainly based on specimen records, at the Chinese Virtual Herbarium (CVH), https://www.cvh.ac.cn/) , Herbarium of Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences (PE, https://pe.ibcas.ac.cn/ ）The National Specimen Information Infrastructure (NSII), http://www.nsii.org.cn/ ）and the Specimen Collection of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography (XJBI), Chinese Academy of Sciences to determine the county level distribution information of each species in Xinjiang based on the specimen records, and to quote one voucher specimen from Xinjiang for each name. The distribution of some species cannot be accurately recorded at the county level based on existing data, and the distribution has been kept as precise as possible. The voucher specimen directly cites the specimen barcode, and for some new taxa and newly distributed species, the collection information is directly cited due to the lack of specimen barcode. Due to the fact that confirming "no distribution" is sometimes more difficult than "distribution", for species that have been clearly recorded as distributed in Xinjiang in important previous works but have not yet been verified as evidence specimens in this study, this catalog temporarily includes them and makes special notes for further verification in future research.
