The third iteration of the DragonflyIndia Meet, also known as the Indian Odonatology Meeting, was conducted at Gorumara National Park in West Bengal from August 26th to August 29th, 2016, maintaining the momentum of the previous two years (2014,2015). This scientific gathering was organised by DragonflySouthAsia of DiversityIndia in collaboration with Nature Mates - Nature Club, Kolkata, with the backing of the Worldwide Dragonfly Association and the International Dragonfly Fund. The conference spanned four days and included a comprehensive itinerary of field visits to the Gorumara National Park and surrounding areas of the Neora Valley National Park (specifically, Samsing), as well as presentations on the subjects of taxonomy, ecology, behavioural biology, and conservation of odonates. The programme encompassed hands-on sessions focused on the preservation and identification of specimens, as well as deliberations concerning larval rearing and identification, and macro photography of odonates. A dedicated session was organised to discuss conservation outreach initiatives centred around odonates. Similar to the previous year, the attendees of the four-day excursion were able to document a total of 66 Odonata species, such as Agriocnemis femina (Pruinosed Dartlet), Paracercion calamorum (Dusky Lily-squatter), and Epophthalmia vittata (Common Torrent Hawk). During the meeting, odonatologists were delighted to observe several intriguing and uncommon species native to West Bengal and Northeast India, including the Pygmy Bloodtail (Agrionoptera insignis), White-tailed Skimmer (Amphithemis vacillans), Two-spotted Coeliccia (Coeliccia bimaculata), and Four-spotted Jewel (Aristocypha quadrimaculata). During the meeting's field study, not only were there adult odonates, but also the larval exuviae of the Common Torrent Hawk (Epophthalmia vittata), Amber-winged Marsh Glider (Hydrobacilius croceus), and Forest Glory (Vestalis sp. ). The members had also documented various other forms of biodiversity from the said location, keeping odonates in focus.Sampling Description
