New records of snail-killing flies (diptera: Sciomyzidae) from Iran

Description

During a two-week sampling campaign in Iran from April 17th to May 1th 2016, 14 species of snail-killing flies (Diptera: Sciomyzidae) were caught. Three species, Pherbellia schoenherri, P. nana and P. ventralis are mentioned for the first time from Iran.

Study Extent

Six provinces were visited: Kerman province, Khuzestan province, Mazandaran province, Qazvin province, Alborz province and Teheran province

Sampling

All materials were collected by hand-netting the insects, and stored as dry, pinned materials.

Quality Control

Of all species, at least one specimen was collected.

Taxonomic Coverages

New records of 12 species of Snail-killing flies (Diptera: Sciomyzidae) are given: Pherbina coryleti, Psacadina verbekei, Tetanocera hyalipennis, Ilione turcestanica, Hydromya dorsata, Sepedon sphegea, Sepedon spinipes, Coremacera catenata, Pherbellia griscescens, Pherbellia spec., Pherbellia cinerella, Pherbellia nana and Pherbellia griseola. Three species of Snail-killing flies (Diptera: Sciomyzidae) are new to Iran: Pherbellia ventralis, Pherbellia schoenherri and Pherbellia nana Nomenclature is according to Systema Dipterorum (http://www.diptera.org/index.php).
