Las zonas áridas del Altiplano avifaunísticamente son de gran importancia, ya que ocupan una gran extensión del territorio nacional y en ellas pueden ocurrir una gran diversidad de especies, no obstante su conocimiento es aún insuficiente. Por lo que este proyecto, pretende fortalecer el conocimiento de la biodiversidad avifaunística de Altiplano de San Luis Potosí, a través de la realización de un inventario, que recopile la información histórica (recopilación bibliográfica), y reciente a través de la obtención de registros visuales y auditivos, y recolecta de ejemplares que permita enriquecer el conocimiento de la región. Se obtendrán durante un año, un total de 1,500 registros de aproximadamente 200 especies; tanto residentes, migratorias y transitorias distribuidas en 18 órdenes, 54 familias y 139 géneros. Un total de 1,150 registros visuales y auditivos serán obtenidos en el campo, para lo cual se realizarán caminatas libres durante dos horas, registrando la especie y datos fundamentales a la hora del avistamiento. Por otro lado, se reunirá una colección de 180 ejemplares de referencia de aproximadamente 60 especies, recolectados mediante el uso de redes ornitológicas colocadas en diferentes tipos de vegetación dentro las ecorregiones de interés. Se entregará una colección de 110 fotos de las especies registradas ya sea en el campo o bien al momento de su captura. Se recopilará la información de 170 registros históricos de la distribución de las aves en el Altiplano Potosino. La información obtenida durante el proyecto será capturada en una base de datos, como uno de los principales resultados del mismo, esta sentará las bases para ampliar el conocimiento de la distribución de la avifauna potosina, que permitirá modificar o crear áreas de conservación en el Estado.
