general
Rupicolous, terrestrial, sometimes epiphytic herb with abbreviated stem to 2cm thick. LEAF: Petiole to 50cm long, 0.8cm thick, shorter or longer than blade; leaf blade oblong-lanceolate to -elliptic, to 70cm long, 20cm broad, apex subacute to acute-acuminate, base cuneate to rounded; side veins forming inframarginal veins. INFLORESCENCE: Peduncle to 20cm long, 0.4cm thick, shorter than or subequal to petiole; spathe oblong-elliptic, to15cm long, 4cm broad, equal or slightly longer than spadix, green or purplish, erect to suberect, persistent; spadix conic to subcylindic, to 12cm long, 1.5cm thick, subsessile; tepals purplish. INFRUCTESCENCE: Berries (according to original description) 0.5cm long, green with reddish spots at apex, white basally; seeds oblong, 0.3cm long.
habitat
A plant of the coastal forest zone, including restinga habitats, although recent collections have extended the range westwards into drier forest formations ("Mata Mesofila" sensu Mori & Mattos Silva).
