Managing open habitats for species conservation: the role of wild ungulate grazing, small-scale disturbances, and scale - Corynephorus canescens domiated grassland. A case study in North-Eastern Germany.
Georg Schweinfurth (1836-1925) was a private scholar, traveler in Africa, botanist and plant geographer. On his exploring expeditions to North and East Africa as well as to South West Asia he documented his findings by diary entries (mostly lost) and hand drawings, of which the latter are housed at the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin. These drawings have been taxonomically revised and databased for scientific use.
This dataset contains a digital set of over 15,000 images J. Francis Macbride made in Berlin of material collected in Central and South America from 1778 through May 1930. The 154 plant families represented are predominated by Asteraceae, Fabaceae, Rubiaceae, Melastomataceae, Solanaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Araceae, Acanthaceae, Bromeliaceae and Piperaceae.

BoBO aims at providing biodiversity observation data to GBIF via BioCASE for re-use in scientific research and virtual research environments such as the EDIT platform for cybertaxonomy. The database Specimen Tool was developed within the context of the DNA Bank Network at BGBM. This dataset contains observations accompanied by geo references and multimedia files as proof or references to multimedia files, identified by natural persons. The dataset is fully referenced and all contributors are acknowledged. Multimedia files are licensed under Creative Commons unless otherwise indicated.
The Phytoplankton Collections at B comprise water samples of mixed phytoplankton, fixed with lugol, ethanol or other fixing agents. In the original database at B, samples are partly linked to sampling data, countings, and literature data. The collections include samples of Willi Ripl's research group (TU Berlin), Barbara Meyer (MPI Plön), and Ursula Geissler's research group (FU Berlin).
The Culture Collection of Microalgae and Zygnematophyceae Collection Hamburg (MZCH-SVCK) contains over 550 living strains. Focus of the collection are Zygnematophyceae, especially Desmidiaceae, with multiple isolates collected from different continents. The Zygnematophyceae collection, formerly SVCK (Engels & Mix 1980, Mix 1973) serves as reference strain collection for studies on evolution of streptophytes, ecophysiological adaptations in microalgae and the influence of climate change.
The database provides observations, specimens as well as multimedia items of Protozoa from collections like B and BHUPM, specialists, working groups and literature resources. The Protozoa data collection was initiated by GBIF-D Plants, Algae & Protists (Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) project 01 LI 1001 A-F).
The Corvids Literature Database (CLD) is online since spring 2006. Its aim is to record all known publications (citation format) about Crows, Ravens, Jays, and Magpies worldwide. Several thousand papers about Corvids can be found by using powerful literature search engines. But none of them is able to handle crow-specific search keys, like for example "Show me all papers with information about Nesting of the Black-billed Magpie". A few cited specimens can already be found at GBIF or museum websites. The database provides specimens and observations of Corvids found in published papers of the Corvids Literature Database.
The Cichorieae Portal is being established as a convenient access to the existing knowledge about the tribe Cichorieae of the sunflower family (Asteraceae or Compositae). The Cichorieae include about 93 genera, of these, 90 genera comprise approximately 1400 species, while 3 genera, hawkweeds and dandelions (Hieracium, Pilosella, and Taraxacum), add further 8000+ species, hybrids and/or apomictics. The collection of fungi, mainly members of the Glomeromycota, consists of voucher specimens and records relating to some three decades of research into the taxonomy and systematics of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi . Most of the specimens are held in the herbarium at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (E), though more recent ones may still be retained personally by Chris Walker pending their deposit in the herbarium. The "Herbarium Lusaticum" represents the flora of Upper Lusatia with 47,000 specimens of vascular plants collected over a period of 200 years. About 45,000 specimens of the "Herbarium Lusaticum" are digitised in the collection database.
The mycological collection of the POLLICHIA at the Pfalzmuseum für Naturkunde in Bad Dürkheim (Germany) comprises about 3500 specimens, originating from all systematic groups. All taxa so far identified from the Palatinate (southern Rhineland-Palatinate, SW Germany) are represented in the collection with individual vouchers.
