Guidelines

Guidelines Information about the development and functioning of the e-conference is listed below, with several guidelines for participants and contributors. If you need some help, or you want to make any comments, contact us at digit-ec@gbif.org

Subscription

Subscription is required in order to be able to contribute to the discussion. To register, please send a message requesting subscription to:

    digit-ec@gbif.org

Conference Moderator

The Conference Moderator will be Chuck Miller, Chief Information Officer, Missouri Botanical Garden.

Monitoring the e-conference

The e-conference consists of an e-mail listserv, where the discussion is carried out, and a web site, on which all posted contributions are stored. Subscribing to the e-conference allows you to contribute and to receive contributions in your personal e-mailbox (to subscribe see above).

Receiving messages

You will receive e-conference postings directly in your e-mailbox. In addition, all contributions are stored in the DIGIT e-conference in the DIGIT Library area of the DIGIT Interest Group on GBIF CIRCA.

Posting contributions

Once you have subscribed and the e-conference is started you can send postings directly to digit-ec@listserv.rediris.es. You can also reply to any message coming from digit-ec@listserv.rediris.es

If you have any difficulty, please contact digit-ec@gbif.org

Please note that this is a moderated e-conference. This means that your contribution will not automatically be forwarded to other participants or posted on the website. It will first be reviewed by the e-conference committee, and thus may even be edited. Contributions will be sent to participants, and uploaded on to the web site, within 24 hours after posting.

In order to maintain an standard format in all contributions posted to the e-conference, please bear in mind the following guidelines:

  • Texts should not be longer than one A4 page.
  • When texts are longer than one A4 page, a summary should be posted and the complete text sent in an attached document. The moderator will send the summary to the conference with a link to the complete text, which will be stored as a CIRCA document.
  • Each message should deal with only one topic. If a contributor wishes to express opinions on several subjects, separate messages should be sent for each topic.
  • Make sure that each of your contributions include the following information:
    • A title (in the subject line of your e-mail message).
    • Your name and the organization you belong to.
    • A brief summary of the content of your contribution.

Please note that attachments (pictures, graphs, tables…) will not be forwarded to participants' mail boxes. However, they will be uploaded to the website, and included in the final report of the e-conference.
