The GBIF Training Manuals on biodiversity data mobilisation have the objective of improving the capacity of biodiversity data producers, holders and custodians to efficiently manage, publish, share and use these data.

The GBIF Secretariat is leading the development of training manuals on the following topics:

  1. Training Manual I: digitisation and mobilisation of natural history collection data.
  2. Training Manual II: digitisation and mobilisation of observational data.
  3. Training Manual III: capture, digitisation and mobilisation of multimedia resources in biodiversity.
  4. Training Manual IV: digitisation and mobilisation of other types of biodiversity information.
  5. Training Manual V: digitisation and mobilisation of organisms name data.
  6. Training Manual VI: biodiversity metadata capture and management.
     
     

Call for Contributions March 2009

The GBIF Secretariat released an open call for contributions to the GBIF Training Manuals in March 2009. These are the proposals accepted in that call, and their state of development:

  • The specifications of a biodiversity multimedia server based on TDWG MRTG standards by Mihail Carausu
    Cancelled by the DanBIF team.
     
  • The digitisation of biological nomenclatural and taxonomic information from Richard John Pankhurst
    Under public review.
     
  • Guidelines for the management of digital biological names information from Francisco Welter-Schultes
    Published!
     
  • Biodiversity datasets metadata implementation at the global level by Falk Huettmann
    [second draft in preparation].
     
  • How to increase efficiency in the digitisation process of a natural history collection using digital images of the specimens by Mihail Carausu
    [postponed for a future call].
     
  • Metadata policy implementation at the national level by Ángela M. Suárez Mayorga & Mónica L. Vera Ardila
