The GBIF Nodes Committee promotes regional-level activities as a way to empower Node Managers to participate more actively in GBIF. These regional meetings complement the global-level activities of this committee.
A call for the organisation of regional Meetings for Node Managers in 2012 is currently open.
Two rounds of regional meetings have been held to date, supported by GBIF grants, which have proven an effective setting for identifying common needs, priorities and opportunities, based on existing regional collaboration processes:
- Africa (Arusha, Tanzania, 2008; Entebbe, Uganda, 2010),
- Asia (Bangkok, Thailand, 2009; Dehradun, India, 2010),
- Europe (Copenhagen, Denmark, 2008; Alicante, Spain, 2010),
- Latin America (San Jose, Costa Rica, 2008; Cusco, Peru, 2010),
- and North America (Washington, USA, 2009; Guelph, Canada, 2010).
A regional event for Oceania was also held in 2010 in conjunction with the CBD CoP10 and in partnership with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP).
See poster on Regional Engagement.
