The BIF Advanced Kit is aimed at those biodiversity information networks or facilities that are already established and are in the process of consolidation or expansion. This kit will provide access to more specialized tools, as well as guidelines and documentation on the tools, techniques, and processes concerning the mobilization, publication and use of biodiversity data.

The development of this kit is part of the work planned for 2014-2015. Once completed, it will include the following elements:

  • A set of manuals and best practices guides on the more advanced aspects of setting up a BIF: consolidating and expanding the informatics infrastructure, addressing complex end-user needs, supporting the science-policy interface, sharing knowledge and capacity, integrating with other initiatives, etc;

  • A set of tools to enable specialized data publishing and retrieval, publishing new data types, establishing customized data access portals, setting up of online social and training platforms, etc;

  • A training programme on advanced topics relevant to nodes.

As the BIF start-up kit, the advanced kit adds up to other support mechanisms existing in GBIF, such as the nodes committee, the mentoring and the CEPDEC programmes, the regional meetings and training events, direct support from the Secretariat, and much more.
