Registration for GBIF Governing Board meeting now open

GB20 and associated events to be held in Berlin, Germany from 4-10 October.

Delegates are invited to register online for the 20th meeting of GBIF Governing Board (GB20) and associated events, to be held in Berlin, Germany from 4-10 October.

The meeting of the Governing Board will take place from 8-10 October. Among the events open to the public are the 2013 GBIF Science Symposium and the launch of new GBIF portal on 9 October. All other sessions, including a two-day training event and global nodes meeting to be held from 4-7 October, are open only to official delegates and invitees.

Johannes Vogel, Director General of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, one of the local organizers of the meeting commented: “We are glad that this important meeting will be held in Berlin. It will strengthen political awareness on the issues of global biodiversity research, associated information science and governance.”

“Free and open access to biodiversity data is crucial in supporting sustainable development—locally and globally,” he added.

The Governing Board meeting is hosted by the German government and its funding agency for research (DFG). The local organizers of the event are the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem (BGBM) and the Freie Universität Berlin.
