Target audience: Development and funding agencies
Abstract: CEPDEC is a multi-stakeholder approach to helping developing countries gain
access to, and learn how to utilise, information about biological diversity that is held
in the world’s natural history collections, observational databases, and literature. It
focuses on developing capacity and tools to aid decision makers in a selected group of
developing countries. It builds upon the efforts of many of the world’s governments
and scientists who have joined together to form the Global Biodiversity Information
Facility (GBIF), a gateway to a wide range of biodiversity information from around the
world. By leveraging the already-existing funding for GBIF, CEPDEC is able to
relatively quickly provide key human and computing resources, including targeted
training activities.
