Digital Imaging of Biological Type Specimens. A Manual of Best Practice

This book addresses a number of important issues about the digital imaging of biological objects. It gives practical information on the digitisation process, depending on the type of specimens we are handling. These topics were explored in two workshops organised by the European Network for Biodiversity Information (ENBI), and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility.

Target audience: Natural history collection managers and associated staff who want to know more about the process of producing digital images of the preserved specimens.
Abstract: With the digital imaging of a growing number of biological objects, it has become of great importance to agree on common approaches and standards. Such standardisation is particulary important for natural history specimens so as to compare specimens often with only subtle sifferences in morphology. Emerging technologies are leading to exciting new opportunities in scientific studies and the field of biodiversity is notable among them. (Wouter Los, Preface of the Manual)
