GBIF has begun cross-linking organism names with publications and is therefore interested in gaining access to entire publications – or at least their abstracts – in order to index them. We prefer to receive the complete individual publications as PDF files, but we do support most common formats like HTML, XML, Microsoft Office (.doc, .xls, .ppt) and others.

To help us find online publications, we recommend that publishers provide:

• An RSS feed listing the latest publications, such as the table of contents of the current issue of a journal
• An archive file listing all available publications in a simple format. For open access journals this can include links to the full PDF version; otherwise it should contain metadata and, if possible, abstracts of the entire back catalogue.
