What do you need in order to share biodiversity data with others around the world?

GBIF makes free and open access to such data possible.

The Informatics activities of the Secretariat focus on developing a full suite of information technology infrastructure, architecture, services and tools to serve a fully functional network of participants. Together with GBIF’s Participation team, the Informatics team ensures that Participants’ technical needs are being constantly evaluated and met:

  • Growth – through richer content, such as specimens and observations, names/nomenclatures and metadata
  • Scalability – through a GBIF informatics distributed architecture and decentralised services
  • Capacity – through access to appropriate tools, products and services
  • Visibility – through access to a powerful and user-friendly GBIF Data Portal and other tools, such as Nodes, thematic portals and Rich Internet Applications.
