The 18th meeting of the GBIF Governing Board (GB18) took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 4-6 October 2011 with GBIF Committee meetings taking place in the days before that. 

30 countries, 12 international organisations as well as observers participated in the meeting, making the total no. of attendees 105.

In connection with the Governing Board meeting, the annual GBIF Science Symposium was held with the theme 'GBIF at 10: Reaping benefits for science and society'.

A number of committee meetings and training sessions also took place in Buenos Aires.
