In 2007 the Governing Board decided to meet only once a year, and establish an Executive Committee to oversee GBIF operations in the intervening periods. The Executive Committee is responsible for monitoring the performance of the Secretariat and of the GBIF Participants overall in implementing various decisions taken by the Board and to take inter-sessional decisions on behalf of the Board.
