  <abstract>
   <para>This is a checklist of plants growing, without cultivation, on the grounds of the U.S. National Arboretum.
The checklist is comprehensive for native species known to be naturally occurring on the grounds.
The checklist includes many introduced exotic species which are established in our region.
The checklist also contains a certain number of local escapes from plants cultivated at the National Arboretum. However, the checklist is by no means comprehensive of the many plants that fit the latter category.</para>
