GBIF Secretariat seeks Web Programmer(s)

The GBIF Secretariat is seeking to contract the development of web interfaces to display information from its internal Information Management System.

The GBIF Secretariat is seeking a motivated web programmer or small team of programmers to design and develop the connections and multi-lingual web interfaces that allow the search and display of resources (files and links) stored in the GBIF Secretariat Internal Information Management System (IMS) based in FileMaker.  These resources will made available through GBIF’s website (www.gbif.org) based in TYPO3.

Scope

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Officer for Training, the successful candidate or small team will work on:

  • Developing and programming the FileMaker layouts, queries and scripts that will link the FileMaker database with the TYPO3 site. These links can be developed using PHP and FileMaker Studio or any other system proposed by the contractor;
  • Designing and developing the multi-lingual web interfaces that will be used to search and display the information related to resources and GBIF Participants through the GBIF website.
  • Interacting with the GBIF IMS designer to make any necessary changes in the Filemaker system for a better display of the information;
  • Documenting all the code developed during this project.

Minimum qualifications and experience

  • University degree in Web Design or Computer Science/IT. Candidates without a university degree but with enough verifiable experience will also be evaluated;
  • Experience in the use of FileMaker systems;
  • Experience designing user-friendly web interfaces to access resource libraries and display databased information;
  • Experience with TYPO3 or other similar Web Content Management System(s);
  • Experience with PHP, Javascript or any other web programming language that can perform the connections described in this call for proposals;
  • Fluency in English.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in a multicultural environment;
  • Creative, problem-solving attitude;
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Duration and conditions

The appointed external contractor or small team will work remotely, with coordination meetings held either on-site (at the GBIF Secretariat premises in Copenhagen, Denmark) or remotely (by email, online conferences, etc).

The successful candidate or team will be expected to start work as soon as possible, preferably by 17 September 2010, with a contract expected duration of 2-3 months.

The contract will be issued for up to 9000 EUR depending on the final set of conditions agreed during the elaboration of the contract and the experience of the candidate/team.

All travelling related to this contract will be paid by the GBIF Secretariat but it will require previous discussion and approval.
