The Trondheim Conference on Biodiversity is already almost an institution in the small, picturesque town of Trondheim, Norway. This year the conference is taking place from 1 – 5 February 2010 under the theme “Getting the biodiversity targets right – working for sustainable development” and GBIF is represented by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Nick King.
The five Trondheim Conferences on Biodiversity held since 1993 have provided an opportunity for policy makers, managers and scientists to come together and discuss key issues under the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD). Furthermore, the conferences also help build important bridges between science and policy, and they provide both insights and inspiration for participants and organisations alike.
The current conference considers the status of - and lessons learnt - from the current 2010 target. It also focuses on post-2010 targets.
Highlights of the conference may be followed on the website of the International Institute for Sustainable evelopment (IISD) on http://www.iisd.ca/ymb/biodiv/tcb6/
The Conference is hosted by the Government of Norway in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNPE) and the Secretariat of Biological Diversity (SCBD) and organised by the Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management (DN).
