The GBIF Secretariat will:
- make presentations at side events (e.g addressing the barriers to biodiversity data sharing, how to link primary occurrence data with protected areas polygons)
- have live demonstrations of the GBIF data portal at a dedicated booth (# 055),
- distribute information on GBIF’s work programme and campaigns that are relevant to conservation;
- exhibit posters that show the relevance of GBIF’s work to the conservation community.
In addition, GBIF together with the Conservation Commons have proposed a draft resolution and recommendation to the IUCN members’ Assembly strongly advocating Open Access policies to biodiversity data.
Together with UNEP-WCMC, GBIF will launch a new Widget web-based application that links the World Database on Protected Areas with GBIF-mediated data. The demo uses Madagascar and Spain as exemplars of this application that aims at benefitting the international community interested in biodiversity conservation.
If you are attending the IUCN World Congress, you are cordially invited to visit the GBIF booth, support the GBIF-Conservation Commons resolution and recommendation on Open Access to biodiversity data and attend the launching of the WDPA-GBIF widget demonstration (6 Oct. at 16:30, CCIB Room 115).
