Welcome to Wellington
Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and the home of New Zealand government. The city sits on 29,000 hectares with a population of approximately 164,000 people. Go to www.wellingtonnz.com for more on Wellington.
The climate can be varied, with the average temperature for October/November between 16-22 degrees Celsius. Click here for further information on Wellington weather.
Wellington is set between a magnificent harbour and rolling green hills. It is also a compact city, only two kilometres wide, where splendid shopping, exciting galleries and great restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Wellington enjoys a well-earned reputation as New Zealand's arts and entertainment capital. It is home to the Museum of New Zealand (Te Papa Tongarewa), the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and The Royal New Zealand Ballet. More recently, it has received global acclaim as home to Peter Jackson and the success of The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Wellingtonians, like most New Zealanders, tend to have a passion for sport. You may see them cheering on their beloved Hurricanes and Lions rugby teams at the Westpac Stadium, nipping out after work for a mountain-biking session in the Town Belt or kayaking on the picturesque harbour.
Transport in the City
There are two main routes into the city; however, we would suggest the scenic route around the bays taking you to Oriental Parade. The tunnel can be crowded at peak commute times.
Taxi Fare from the airport to central city is approximately NZ$30.00
Shuttle Service - There are a number of shuttle services available from the taxi stands, with an average cost of NZ$12.00 per person and NZ$4.00 per person thereafter if you are going to the same destination. Most shuttles hold 10 people.

Daylight Saving
Please note: Daylight saving starts on Sunday, 3rd October.
Electric Plug Adaptors
New Zealand uses plugs with oblique
flat blades (inverted V-shape). Please check your laptop and
bring a converter if necessary.
Standard New Zealand single phase voltage is 230v 50hz.
Mobile phone networks in New Zealand
New Zealand has two mobile phone networks - Vodafone and Telecom. The Vodafone
network operates on the 900Mhz GSM digital network that operates widely in
Europe, Australia and parts of Asia. Telecom operates a network that is not
compatible with networks in other countries. Neither network is compatible
with US mobile networks, though some new phones are “tri band” and
are designed to operate in a range of countries.
If you have a GSM 900 digital mobile phone you will be able to use it in New
Zealand once you have activated the “roaming” facility through
your network supplier in your country. You must do this before you leave as
otherwise your phone won’t work at all in New Zealand. Further information
is available on the Vodafone New Zealand website: http://vodafone.co.nz/network/04.3_nz.jsp
