Morning: Training for the African GBIF Nodes

Afternoon: Presentations by participants.

 

Science Committee meeting

Time: 09:00-14:30

Venue: Arusha International Conference Centre, Room: Manyara

Meeting of the GBIF Science Committee.

 

Budget Committee meeting

Time: 15:00-18:00

Venue: Arusha International Conference Centre, Room: Manyara

Meeting of the GBIF Budget Committee.

 

2 November 2008 (Sunday)

 

African GBIF Nodes Regional Meeting and Joint session for all Nodes

Morning: African GBIF Nodes Regional Meeting (business session on regional planning, collaborations and next steps)

Afternoon: Joint session of African Nodes with other Nodes attending the Governing Board meeting.

 

Rules Committee meeting

Time: 09:00-12:00

Venue: Arusha International Conference Centre, Room: Manyara 

Meeting of the GBIF Rules Committee.

 

Executive Committee meeting

Time: 13:00-17:00

Venue: Arusha International Conference Centre, Room: Manyara

Meeting of the GBIF Executive Committee.

3 November 2008 (Monday)

 

Governing Board meeting – Day 1

Time: 09:00-17:00

Venue: Arusha International Conference Centre, Room: Mbayuwayu 

First day of the two-day Governing Board meeting. Registration starts at 08:00.

 

4 November 2008 (Tuesday)

 

Field Trip - Ngorongoro Crater

The field trip is expected to start at 06:00 and finish at 18:00

5 November 2008 (Wednesday)

 

Governing Board meeting – Day 2

Second day of the two-day Governing Board meeting.

 

TanBIF Portal Launch

Official Launch of the TanBIF Portal.

 

Ebbe Nielsen Prize Ceremony

 Time: 16:30-17:30

Venue: Arusha International Conference Centre, Room: Simba Hall

2008 Ebbe Nielsen Prize ceremony and winner’s lecture. 

The Prize honours the memory of Ebbe Nielsen and is awarded annually to a promising researcher who is combining biosystematics and biological diversity informatics research that support the objectives of GBIF in an exciting and novel way.

The presentation is open to the public.

6 November 2008 (Thursday)

 

Science Symposium

 Time: 09:00-17:00

Venue: Arusha International Conference Centre, Room: Mbayuwayu

 "Biodiversity, humans and global change in Africa". The 6th annual GBIF Science Symposium. The Symposium is open to the public.

Global change has already affected biodiversity and will continue doing so. Because of the multiple and inherent links between ecosystems health, ecosystems services and the livelihood of people, the impact of global change on human populations could be devastating. Furthermore, the Millenium Ecosystem Assessment has already indicated that poor people in rural areas are particularly vulnerable to the loss of essential services when ecosystems become degraded.
