Below are short summaries of what will take place during 14th Governing Board of GBIF.

14-15 October - NODES Committee meeting

Time: 09:00-17:30
Venue: Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam

The NODES Committee is a forum where Node Managers share their visions, expectations, experience and best practices. It also serves as an advisory committee to the Governing Board, the Executive Committee, the Science Committee and the Secretariat on issues relevant for the nodes.

This year the Nodes Committee meeting has been expanded to two days, offering a unique opportunity for Node managers to discuss and plan on topics such as the use of the new GBIF data portal, the relationship between national and regional networks and how to deal with sensitive data, among others.

15 October - NODES Training session

Time: 09:00-17:30
Venue: Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam

A training session will also run in parallel during the second day of the meeting; this session will be targeted at additional delegates to the Nodes Committee that are interested in the technical aspects of the new data portal (e.g., using the GBIF web services), as well as in recent developments such as TAPIR.

15 October - Science, Budget, Rules and Executive Committee meetings

Time: 09:00-19:00
Venue: Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam

Meeting of the GBIF Science (09:00-12:30), Budget (13:30-16:00), Rules (16:00-17:30) and Executive (17:30-19:00) Committees.

15 October - Reception

Time: 18:30-20:30
Venue: Muziekgebouw aan 'T IJ

Delegates attending the Science, Budget, Rules and Executive Committee meetings on 15 October and delegates attending the Governing Board meeting the following day are invited to a reception hosted by the Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the City Council of Amsterdam. The reception will take place at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, which is located next to the Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam.

16-17 October - Governing Board meeting

Time: 09:00-17:00
Venue: Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam

A two-day meeting of the GBIF Governing Board. Registration starts at 08:00.

16 October - Official hosted dinner

Time: 18:00-21:30
Venue: Restaurant Het Gemaal

Delegates of the Governing Board are kindly invited to dinner. The dinner is hosted by the Netherlands Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the University of Amsterdam. Participants will be picked up by boat from the Moevenpick at 18:00 and taken to the Restaurant Het Gemaal, where dinner will start at 19:00.

17 October - Ebbe Nielsen Prize ceremony and reception

Time: 17:00-20:00
Venue: Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam

The Ebbe Nielsen prize award ceremony, presentation, and the reception honouring this year’s recipient of the award. The Prize honours the memory of Ebbe Nielsen and is awarded annually to a promising researcher who is combining biosystematics and biological diversity informatics research that supports the objectives of GBIF in an exciting and novel way.

18 October - Science Symposium

18 October - Reception for Jim Edwards

Time: 16:00-18:00
Venue: Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam

Reception for Jim Edwards, former GBIF Executive Secretary.

19 October - Meeting of the Science Committee

Time: 08:00-11:00
Venue: Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam

Meeting of the newly formed Science Committee.

19 October - Meeting of the Executive Committee

Time: 11:00-15:00

19 October - Excursions

Excursions for Governing Board meeting participants:

Naturalis (Natural History Museum of Leiden) ( http://www.naturalis.nl)
A guided tour in the collections of the Natural History Museum of Leiden plus time to see some of Leiden

Oostvaardersplassen (national park in Flevoland) ( http://www.staatsbosbeheer.nl/ontdek/bijzonderenatuurgebieden/details.asp?GEB_ID=51)
Oostvaardersplassen is a nature reserve with wet and dry areas (former sea, land since 1965, park since 1985). There will be a slide show and a guided tour.

Both tours will depart from the Hotel Moevenpick Amsterdam at 9:30 and return around 15:30. Each group has a maximum of 30 people.
